A car struck a bicyclist who was crossing northbound Interstate 5 near Castle Rock on Sunday, Nov. 1.
The bicyclist, identified by the Washington State Patrol as Andre J. Hubbard, 59, of Olympia, was transported to Peacehealth St. John Medical Center for injuries he sustained in the crash.
Hubbard was not wearing a Department of Transportation-compliant helmet at the time of the crash, according to the state patrol.
Hubbard was reportedly crossing northbound I-5 from the east shoulder to the median at milepost 49 when a white 2025 Volkswagen Atlas traveling in the far right lane struck him.
Hubbard’s bicycle and the Volkswagen, driven by Viktor F. Polhovski, 31, of Fife, both came to rest on the left shoulder.
Polhovski and his passenger, Sopia Polhovski, 23, of Fife, were not injured.
The Washington State Patrol has determined that Hubbard was responsible for the crash by obstructing traffic.
Drugs or alcohol were not involved, according to a state patrol incident report.
