On a night where the Timberline softball team didn’t need many hits to do damage offensively against Mount Tahoma, sophomore Porsha Miller made the most of her plate appearances.
She went 2 for 3 with an inside-the-park home run, four runs batted in and a walk as Timberline defeated Mount Tahoma 17-1 in five innings Tuesday. Miller also pitched five one-hit innings, striking out 12 batters and walking five while giving up one unearned run.
Timberline opened the game with nine runs in the first inning, as each of the first seven Blazers batters walked, bringing four runs home before Miller delivered the first hit on a two-run single. It was the only hit of the frame.
In the second, the Blazers took a 15-0 lead despite only two combined hits across the first two frames. Leilani Palacios drove in two runs with a double to highlight a six-run second.
With two on and no one out in the third, Miller stepped up to the plate and hit her first high school home run, but it was called back because a runner left third base early. Three pitches later, Miller cranked another fly ball to center field and secured an inside-the-park homer.
“She redeemed herself and missed a replay by a couple inches,” Timberline head coach Lynsi Polanco said of Miller. “Porsha did great in the circle and at the plate. She shined on the mound with her strikeouts and with the great catching of Brynli Mayr. She’s put in a lot of hard work this offseason, and it showed today with her command, especially through the random rain showers.”
Timberline (3-1, 3-0 Puget Sound League) will look to keep rolling against Capital (0-3, 0-3 Puget Sound League) Wednesday at Stevens Field.
