A crooked number in the fifth was all Adna needed to best Tumwater on Tuesday, when the Pirates defeated the Thunderbirds 8-2 at home.
Tumwater got on the board first with a pair in the top of the fourth, but Adna responded with two of its own in the bottom half before pushing across six one inning later.
Khloe Hunt kickstarted the big inning with a solo home run, and Hadleigh Gerard, Alyssa Carroll, and Tieander Olson added RBI knocks later in the frame, including a three-run triple from Carroll, who also hit an RBI double earlier in the game.
Carroll and Gerard both finished with three hits and combined to drive in six runs, while Charlie Myers allowed just five hits and two runs (one earned) while walking one and striking out six in a complete-game effort on the mound.
Cassandra McCartney and Sophie Skillman drove in Tumwater’s two runs in the fourth.
Adna (3-1) will host Raymond/South Bend on Thursday, while Tumwater (3-3, 1-2 2A EvCo) will host Black Hills on Wednesday.
