SPSCC men recover from slow first half to defeat Pierce

South Puget Sound Community College picked up its 14th win of the season, downing Pierce College 55-49 on the road in NWAC West Conference play on Wednesday.

Jamaal Elliott led the Clippers with 13 points, to go along with seven rebounds and five assists.

SPSCC was down 21-17 in a low-scoring first half but came back after the break to outscore Pierce by 10 points after halftime.

The Clippers shot 33% from the field, including 3 of 15 from the 3-point line, but had a more balanced attack than their opponent. Nakalayah Fabello had 12 points and seven rebounds, while Jeremiah Lewis notched 11 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double.

Jalen Hyppa and Caleb Bowden each had nine points.

SPSCC also shot 12 of 17 from the free-throw line, while Pierce was 7 of 17.

Pierce fell to 3-14 overall and 2-3 in conference play. 

The win snapped a two-game losing streak by the Clippers. They’ll host Centralia College on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m.
