Tenino takes two doubles matches, but falls to Fort Vancouver

Tenino won two doubles matches against Fort Vancouver on Friday, but lost the overall match 4-2.

Gracie Sweet and Izzy Schnase won the top doubles match 6-2, 6-2, and Presley Jones and Kenya Anderson won the second 7-5, 6-3.

“At practice since our last match, we focused a lot on doubles communication,” Tenino coach Sam Shea said. “We did tons and tons of work on that, so watching the play today and seeing them make so much improvement was solid. It shows that the hard work paid off.”

A couple of Tenino’s losses were close to flipping the other direction as well. Chloe Suess won five games in the first set of her match before losing the set 7-5, Kyla Watson went to a third set in her singles match, and Kris Stringer and Alex McMakin were a tiebreaker away from forcing a third set in their match.

“The hard thing about tennis is the set scores don’t always reflect how well they play between games,” Shea said. “It’s important to me that the girls knew they made a ton of progress today. That’s what we try to remember. We try to keep our heads held high, because we played some really good tennis.”

The Beavers will host Columbia (White Salmon) on Thursday.
