In a potential changing of the guard atop the C2BL and District 4, the Riverhawks squeaked by the Mountaineers 29-31 to claim a league meet team title on their home course on Thursday afternoon.
Toledo was paced by all of its scoring five in the top-15 and the 3-4-5 finish by Braelyn Nyberg, Katie Hill and Aspen Cooper was the catalyst. Lilly Cooper took 11th and Audrey Cooper was 14th. The last Cooper to cross the finish line ran a new PR of 25 minutes, 18.10 seconds.
Rainier still finished with the individual champ in Komaire Robles, who ran a new season-best of 20:51 flat. The two-time state medalist garnered her eighth career victory. Teammates Rylee Wilson, Kinsley Barlow and Ruby King all placed in the top-10.
Adna’s Chloe Gevin (seventh), Mossyrock’s Ella Nolan (12th), Onalaska’s Abigail Ellis (17th) and White Pass’ Cyndal Berryman (23rd) all ran new personal bests.
On the boys side, Toledo star Conner Hill secured his second win of the fall in 17:26.90 and his ninth career win. The team race came down to the wire between Adna and Winlock with the Pirates coming out on top 49-56.
The Pirates’ trio of Raymond Carroll (fourth), Trevin Willis (fifth) and Colton Rind (seventh) fueled them to the victory. Carroll and Willis both ran season-best times. The Cardinals were paced by Jacob Trodahl’s third place performance and Lucas Kibler’s ninth place finish.
Rainier’s Ryan Barela registered a sixth place finish with a new PR of 19:08.10 while Landon Engelbertson of Napavine placed 12th. Mossyrock freshman Rory Woods was 13th with a PR, Onalaska had four runners separated by five seconds of each other and White Pass’ JJ Lougee took 51st.
