Vehicle strikes pedestrian walking on state Route 507 in Thurston County

A vehicle struck a pedestrian walking on the highway in Thurston County between Yelm and McKenna on Thursday, Oct. 8.

The pedestrian, identified by the Washington State Patrol as Jonathan M. Chapman, 39, of Yelm, was transported to Providence St. Peter’s Hospital for medical treatment.

Chapman was reportedly walking northbound in the southbound lane of state Route 507 when he was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound in the southbound lane.

The crash was reported at approximately 7:13 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 8.



The vehicle, a white 2019 Ford Transit driven by Joy M. Arnold, 79, of Yelm, came to rest on the right shoulder.

Arnold was not injured, though her vehicle sustained some damage.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
