The Black Hills volleyball team picked up a victory on its Senior Night on Tuesday, topping Centralia in four 25-20, 26-24, 21-25, 25-19.
“Tonight was a fun win for our team and a great way to celebrate Senior Night,” Black Hills coach Kendra Dunn said. “All our seniors did a fantastic job and played well tonight.”
Lilly Worthen led the offensive effort with 15 assists and 11 kills, while Piper Manning led the way defensively with 32 digs. Janessa Balsley finished with nine kills, and Jaya Tummala added seven.
Megan Wickert led the Centralia offense with 10 kills, Ryleigh Butler added eight, and Alena Brenner tallied six.
Kendyl Guenther finished with four kills, two blocks, and was a perfect 12 for 12 at the service line, and Inacia Paul delivered three aces while also going perfect on 13 attempts. Ceiana Arelong went 15 for 18 at the line with four aces, and she also dished out 24 assists.
Defensive stats were not available as of writing, but Centralia coach Marti Smith commenced Eliyah Rooklidge, saying she “played very well” in the back row.
Smith added that she was proud of the fight her group showed, even after losing the first two sets, and she commended the group for their ability to adapt to another lineup change.
“They don’t allow change to dictate how they’re gonna play,” Smith said. “No matter what the lineup, their jobs are still the same … They were relentless, they were playing for each other, and they just kept believing and kept crawling back.”
Centralia (4-12, 1-8 2A EvCo) will finish its season at home on Thursday against Shelton, a match that Smith is sure will be an “emotional” one, as the Tigers will celebrate their six seniors.
“I know that they’re gonna be there for each other on Thursday night,” Smith said. “It’ll be fun.”
Black Hills (10-6, 4-5 2A EvCo) will also wrap up its regular season on Thursday, when the Wolves will head to W.F. West looking to secure the EvCo’s No. 3 seed and the home district pigtail game that comes with it.
