Capital shut out in key matchup against Gig Harbor

The Capital girls soccer team fell short to Gig Harbor in a 2-0 loss at Swarthout Field on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

Gig Harbor is one of two unbeaten teams in Puget Sound League play at 5-0, and the Tides led 1-0 at halftime after a 20-yard goal around the 25th minute. They added to their lead with a goal off a cross in the 53rd minute.

Eliza Gantenbein tallied 10 saves in the net in the first half for Capital, and Luna Manzanares added another 10 in the second half.

“I told them to be proud of how they acclimated to a high-pressed line. They fought,” Capital head coach Adriana Montes said. “They handled the pressure. They create some opportunities. The speed we have is incredible.”

Capital (6-4, 3-2 Puget Sound League) will visit Central Kitsap (3-6-1-, 2-2-1 PSL) on Thursday, Oct. 8.
