Two weeks after the Northwest Christian football team was shut out by Lummi Nation 48-0, the Wolverines quickly found life on offense against Crescent Saturday, Oct. 3.
The Wolverines led 13-8 through the first quarter and 21-14 at halftime, but the Loggers outscored Northwest Christian 24-8 in the second half to win 38-29 in Port Angeles.
“This was a tough loss today. We had opportunities to win but couldn’t seem to build any momentum in the second half,” Northwest Christian head coach Chris Pontius said. “I thought it was a hard-fought game by both teams, but unfortunately we came up short at the end.”
Wolverines quarterback Sully Snyder shined with four touchdown passes and 210 yards and one interception, completing 12 of his 20 passes. He also rushed for 65 yards on seven carries.
Koa Paresa was Snyder’s favorite target as he hauled in six grabs for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Spence Coleman and Mason Barnes each added a touchdown catch.
Northwest Christian forced three turnovers against Crescent, with Coleman intercepting a pass and Luke Nickel and Easton Payment each recovering a fumble.
Northwest Christian (2-2) has a short week in preparation for a home matchup against Quilcene on Thursday, Oct. 8.
“We need to put this game in the rearview mirror and focus on Thursday’s match against Quilcene,” Pontius said. “We hope to continue to get healthy as we start preparing for the home stretch of our schedule. I’m confident in our team and us being ready for the challenge.”
