Wolf Haven International in Tenino enjoys "Howl-o-ween" enrichment

The wolves and wolfdogs at Wolf Haven International in Tenino enjoyed some Halloween enrichment this weekend, thanks to Rutledge Family Farm and the South Sound Eco-Network.

Rutledge Family Farm in Olympia donated a plethora of pumpkins, which were South Sound Eco-Network volunteers carved into jack-o'-lanterns and stuffed full of treats for the Tenino sanctuary’s residents.

“It was such a treat watching our sanctuary residents dive in and enjoy their spooky seasonal enrichment,” Wolf Haven staff said in a social media post on Saturday, Oct. 31. “We are endlessly grateful to all the special people and community partners who give their time to support quality enrichment for the residents.”

Sanctuary staff wished their neighbors a happy “Howl-o-ween full of tricks and treats!”

Wolf Haven International’s Tenino sanctuary has rescued and provided a lifetime home for more than 325 captive-born wolves, wolfdogs and coyotes since 1982. The Tenino sanctuary is currently home to about 40 animals.

Most rescues come from private ownership, while others come from zoos, roadside attractions and other unfortunate situations, according to Wolf Haven International.
