Olympia senior swimmer Normandy Carter was part of four first-place victories in the Bears’ dominant triangular meet win over Emerald Ridge and Graham-Kapowsin at Rogers High School in Puyallup on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Carter qualified for the district meet with personal records and first-place finishes in both the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke as Olympia outscored Graham-Kapowsin 157-31 and Emerald Ridge 152-40. She swam a lifetime-best time of 2:15.47 in the 200-yard freestyle and a new PR time in the 100-yard breaststroke of 1:19.75.
Carter also helped the 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:53.21) and the 400-yard freestyle relay team (4:26.89) finish in first place. Olympia’s 200-yard medley relay team was also victorious at 2:03.91 to start the afternoon.
Behind Carter in second place in the 200-yard freestyle was sophomore Olivia Smith, who set a PR at 2:18.74. Mira Skelton earned a PR in the 100-yard breaststroke to place in third at 1:32.52, one spot behind Amanda Ruan at 1:24.91.
Sophomore Amulya Keitheri Cheteri took first place in the 500-yard freestyle at 6:16.33, good for a lifetime best. Sophomore Preita Sanders picked up a PR and a victory in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:05.66, and she won the 200-yard individual medley at 2:28.60. Priya Sanders was behind her as the 200-yard individual medley runner-up at 1:07.67, while Lily Boyle finished in third with a PR of 1:08.22 to qualify for districts.
Senior Nastasia Monidosi enjoyed a strong day in the pool with wins in the 50-yard freestyle (27.31 seconds) and the 100-yard freestyle (1:01.33).
Senior Isabella DiBenedetto-Campos triumphed in the 1-meter dive with a personal-best score of 134, and Priya Sanders earned first place in the 100-yard butterfly at 1:09.49.
“We had a lot of season-best swims, and we’re gearing up for a big postseason run,” Olympia head coach Henry Valz said. “We are especially proud of a bunch of our newer swimmers who tried new events, including brand-new high school swimmers who swam the 100 fly and 500 free.”
Olympia will face Bonney Lake at Sumner High School on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
