River Ridge rocked by Gig Harbor

It was a forgettable first half for the River Ridge girls soccer team against Gig Harbor on Thursday, Oct. 22, as the Hawks allowed six goals in an 8-0 loss on the road.

After scoring twice in a three-minute span in the 16th and 18th minutes, the Tides ripped four goals in a 7-minute span. Gig Harbor quickly scored in the opening minute of the second half, and one final goal in the 57th minute ignited the mercy rule three minutes later.

Despite the loss, River Ridge (5-5-5, 3-5-2 Puget Sound League) is still very much in play for a spot in the district tournament. The Hawks, currently sitting in ninth place in the league standings, would need to beat North Thurston (5-6-2, 4-5-1 PSL) on Tuesday, Oct. 27 and a Capital loss to Bellarmine on Tuesday to clinch the seventh spot.
