The South Puget Sound Community College volleyball team was within striking distance in all three sets against Centralia College, but the Clippers were swept at home on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Centralia jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first set before SPSCC chipped away to cut it to 13-11. After a brief 4-0 run by the Trailblazers, the Clippers tied the set at 20 thanks to a pair of aces by Jessie McCoy and a kill by Victoria Valenti. Centralia College finished the first set on a 5-0 run to win 25-20.

SPSCC took its first lead early in the second set and held onto it until its 10-9 advantage turned into a 14-10 Centralia lead. Both teams traded ties and lead changes, and after SPSCC made it a one-point game on four occasions late in the frame, the Clippers couldn't string together points in a 25-21 loss.

The Clippers once again led for the majority of the third set but struggled to finish. After leading 23-22, Centralia earned the last three points to secure the sweep.

Valenti led the Clippers with 13 kills, while McCoy added 21 assists, four digs and two aces. Anastasia Morokhova produced seven kills and seven digs.

SPSCC (8-13, 2-5 NWAC) will visit Highline on Friday, Oct. 16.
