A matchup between two sides without a league win was closely contested on Thursday night. In the end, the Black Hills High School volleyball team did just enough to secure a 25-21, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22 victory over Centralia at home.
It snapped a four-game skid by the Wolves and all of their Evergreen Conference contests have gone at least four sets. This one though, they ended up on top.
“Tonight was a great win and a great team effort. Everyone stepped up tonight and played scrappy,” Black Hills head coach Kendra Dunn said. “We will continue to build from tonight.”
Janessa Bailey and Jaya Tummala paced the Wolves (7-4, 1-3 EvCo) front row with 10 kills apiece while defensively, Piper Manning and Tyler Venable recorded 44 and 27 digs, respectively. Venable also added a staggering 12 aces and nine kills.
Centralia (3-8, 0-4) has dropped six of its last seven matches. Ava Horst registered 21 digs and Inacia Paul chipped in 20. At the net, Kendyl Guenther led with 10 kills and four blocks while Ryleigh Butler added eight kills.
Horst and Ceiana Arelong were perfect from the service line and Paul was 14-of-16. The Tigers will look to get in the win column for the first time in league play on Tuesday versus Shelton. For Black Hills, it takes on W.F. West the same night.
